As much as we may whine about the problems of today, it's been worse in the past. Technology has created some real problems, but it's also given us many wonderful things (free and instant communication with people on the other side of the planet!).
If we delve into the "conspiracy realm", we can appreciate that our modern world gives us the ability to reach out and find like minded people and to read and see different viewpoints. In the 1960s we trusted the network news, they were the authorities reporting to us what was going on in the world. We lacked any means of questioning them and seriously challenging if it wasn't also propaganda back then too?
I appreciate and enjoy aspects of a "simpler, older life" but I also thrive on our modern aspects of life. People fear the unknown, which often means fear of the future. Others look for opportunities and welcome challenges.
I think you can compare modern to whatever you think is not modern, but we may have different understandings of that. It's probably all very personal. I agree that we're living in a time of great awakening (to people who think wildly differently from us). This is great, but we're relatively babies in trying to figure out how to manage it. It's likely why so many people long for a government "nanny state" to do it for them. In the future, I think people will learn how to get along knowing that so many people disagree with them. But that takes some trial and error, which is the state we're living in now.
Clinging to anything out of fear will create chaos. Life is like a river and we need to go with the flow. But I believe that river is guided by God-Source and the flow brings us to where we ultimately WANT to go. We just have to let go of the fear that keeps us stuck. Fear of loss is like holding on to a rock in the middle of a raging river. We're just going to keep having things crash up against us and take a beating. Actually releasing that fear, and going with the flow can be more relaxing.
I think you are comparing the modern world to a world farther back in time than I am in this article, and that's fine. The distance in time helps to appreciate the modern world more since there have been more drastic changes since then.
I do not know that all of those things are the best for us, but your appreciation is best for you, so I won't get into my hesitancies.
I agree that I love technology in many ways, from the video games, to the AI vacuum cleaners and warm winters inside cozy homes. We have come so far in such a short period of time. It is a marvel.
What is modern? To which era should we compare?

Great thoughts!
