Useless, Harmful, and Tyrannical by Design
Saviors don't ever actually want to save others and set them free
I’ve written about how it’s difficult to get out of the drama triangle because you eventually surround yourself with people who are in it too. This means when you try to take personal responsibility (if you used to play “victim”) or if you think others should take personal responsibility (whom you used to view as innocent “victims”), your surrounding social environment will turn on you because you’re basically saying that you now believe their worldview is incorrect. To anyone in the drama triangle, everyone else is either with you or against you. So as soon as you disagree with them, you turn into their “enemy.”
There’s also an addictive quality to being in the Drama Triangle, you crave this drama. And if it were to disappear you might lose your identity, friends, and purpose in life. You wouldn’t know who you are without playing the “victim” or “savior.” And as I’ve written about before, people in the Drama Triangle play each one.
Dr. Mark Changizi from
posted a video on YouTube touching on something I’ve mentioned in my Substack before. The response to COVID (and other things), he says, is useless, harmful, and tyrannical by design. I’ve said the response will be useless before because if the problem were solved by the response the government could no longer play the “Savior” role any longer. The people could no longer brag about how morally good they are for fighting for the “victims” out there. It often isn’t just useless, it actually tends to backfire and create more of the problem.
Another important point he makes is that these people who want to play “Savior” also have to play “Victim” and essentially wound collect. So, the response has to harm them too. They have to be able to complain that it sucked being locked down and having to wear a mask so that they can play the “victim” and garner narcissistic supply (the ability to talk about how morally good they are for sacrificing like that for the other “victims” who were immunocompromised.)
He also discusses how they select for tyrannical “solutions” at the end of the video. Anyone disagreeing with the commonly-held beliefs of the “Saviors” gets turned into a “persecutor” (because as I said, you’re either with them or against them in their mind). The “Savior” group believes their beliefs are facts and cannot see how anyone but “evil” people could disagree with them. So they don’t see their “solutions” as civil liberty violations. They see the so-called “solutions” as “common sense” that only morally evil people would disagree with. They don’t care about harming the evil ones, and they think it’s common sense laws they’re putting into place. That’s a very good point.
Check out his Substack and videos on YouTube. They’re really interesting.
The old cliché - pure in heart. Tsk tsk. I agree, selfless intent is less common than it should be.
