In this video from Timcast, the group discusses what “wokeness” is. They basically settle on whatever the “current thing” is.
If you’re somehow unaware of that there’s a meme about supporting the “current thing” as seen here:
There may be some ideology behind “Black Lives Matter” and the Transgender agenda, etc. But there’s not really some ideology behind Ukraine. It’s just that, in order to “fit in” and get clicks/likes, “woke” people follow whatever the “current thing” is and they really don’t want to be seen not following it because they’re afraid of being labeled as “alt-right” or “MAGAt.”
So, why am I posting this here? It’s because of the drama triangle. It’s because the “current thing” picks persecutors to hate and victims to save. It’s the drama they’re attracted to. The “current thing” will be whatever the media is talking about a lot; it will be shocking and there will be someone to hate and some victim to care for. It will be thrilling to post about on social media which is what drives this. They will love to dunk on the villains because the drama energizes them. They will love to be seen as being on the side of the “good guys.” They want to be on the “right side of history.”
I’ve stated that people can switch between the roles in the triangle in a second, saying to defund police because ACAB in one breath and saying you need private security because you’re a “victim” being harassed in another. They’re hypocrites because they don’t actually adhere to a moral framework or ideology. They’re being moved to shift roles in the drama triangle, consistency be damned.
If this was true, then when enough people started saying that defunding the police was stupid, they’d all change their minds. Oh, that’s what happened with many of them, right?
I will say there’s a lag depending on what echo chambers they belong to. Some people only hear the news and don’t spend much time on social media so it takes longer for them to see shifts.
But people who spend a lot of time online can shift very quickly from one position to the next. Like, “that’s not happening,” “it’s happening, but it’s rare,” to “It’s a good thing that’s happening, here’s why.”
Because certain ideological beliefs are seeping into politics and schools there’s probably a combination happening with “wokeness”. I don’t want to outright dismiss other views on “what” it is. But, I just wanted to write that there is definitely something to the woke simply just jumping on the bandwagon of “current thing” to hate “persecutors” and feel like the “good guys” fighting “bad guys” all day long. That can happen on the political right too, so you have to have some self-reflection.
EDIT: James Lindsay gave his definition of woke, which is about critical consciousness, but the main point is that society is designed to “oppress” you. In other words, it’s about believing you are the victim (of an oppressive system), and you need to have “critical consciousness” to become an ally/savior or else you’re a “persecutor.” That is pure drama triangle stuff.
