For the most part, people pick the path of least resistance. If something is difficult or time-consuming to do, then the chances that it will be done decrease, especially when there is an easier way to get things done.

If you wanted to control people, would you opt to be the leader of people who think similarly to you or people who don’t? Think about it, if they see things your way already, then it will be much easier to get them to do what you want done. If people think differently, they will have more resistance to doing things the way you want them done. They’ll likely think they have better ways and would argue with you over them.

Abusive people who get told, “No,” often enough will eventually leave the resistant ones in order to find people who will go along with them. This is why birds of a feather flock together.
