I just read this in an economic news article: "... the election is fraying the nerves of the electorate, with nearly 70% of US adults calling it a significant source of stress, according to a recent report by the American Psychological Association."
Why?
Why are people stressed out about the election? What can you do about it? Vote! Cast your vote and get back to life. Once you've cast your vote, it won't help anyone to stress out about the election.
It’s not necessary to be a persecutor per se though. Incompetence is enough. Just dropping the ball on things like the border, intentional or not, floods the country with drugs and criminals. Printing trillions of dollars while GDP shrinks makes life unaffordable.
If you say someone dropped the ball and you're hurting because of it, that's still suggesting that it was their responsibility. It's still seeing them as a persecutor. We the people could switch to other methods of payments and people could stop hiring criminals, etc. The president is not the only one in that chain of people who dropped the ball. Everyone along the way going along with it (like the border police) also have a part in that. If everyone said, "No," the president could do nothing.
The next three months will be quite interesting no matter what the election outcome is. Your article is excellent! Very accurate thoughts (maybe I should just say I agree).
People overrate the importance of who is president. At this point we have such a huge bureaucracy that it takes a lot to shift the momentum. I'm not a Trump supporter, but he has assembled a great team this time (Gabbard, Kennedy, Musk) and I'm very hopeful this diversity of personalities and thoughts will be a huge improvement for the USA! Trump deserves strong kudos for reaching out to the "other side" and compromising. This is exactly what we needed!
The last thing the USA needs is Tyrant Timmy and Kamala driving the nation in the wrong direction even more!
Something you and I agree on very much is that even if Trump wins a strong victory, the media and his opponents are not going to let up, they will continue to slander and attack him (which is why I wanted Kennedy as president). The "other side" will continue to cause division and stress.
"The last thing the USA needs is Tyrant Timmy and Kamala driving the nation in the wrong direction even more!"
Unless this is what people (who want to be left alone) need to see to hit rock bottom and learn that the government is affecting their lives and it's time to do something about it by enforcing a boundary against abuse.

This is why I called it a free-floating fear, they will just change to put whoever (Kennedy for instance) in the place as scapegoat next. They already tried to do it when DeSantis was running. They called him "worse than Trump." No matter who it is, the opposition will be labeled as "worse than Trump," and it will go on and on with "Worse than (whoever was the evilist)!"
Until they deal with their fear, it will be forever projected onto a scapegoat of some sort, worse and worse as time goes on.
Yes, ultimately it comes down to individuals need to refuse to be abused. Not that we can stop the attempt to abuse us, but we can say "no" and push back. Many of us have, but many more of us need to.
Yes, they will always do the "new person is worse than the previous target". However every time they shift their target, the message gets weaker.
We need to go beyond "the President is not Your Savior" to embrace "the government is not your savior" and "industrial medicine is not your savior". This is where the story of P'nut is so important. We need to get past our collective fear of rabies and stop requiring all pets to be licensed and vaccinated, we need to stop murdering sweet innocent pet squirrels!
As always, I appreciate your helping me stay oriented in the place of an internal locus of control, which is absolutely crucial to happiness!

No President can be your savior, but a bad one can be your demise.
No one single president is our persecutor. If a president went bad, there would be many people between him or her and us.
