It is hard to see this as "genuine" concern on the part of the publisher. Rather it seems like performative sensitivity, perhaps even a cynical attempt to market the books to make money.

Can we safely assume Poirot will now be a non-binary person confused about his/her gender?

I do agree with your point though. It is bad enough they are hacking the book, but the concerted effort to make everything safe is weakening people. I wrote a piece about this very thing if you are interested:

Yes. I have written about resilience gained from going through rough times before also. It's a shame people are running from what could very well help them live happier lives.

It is also self-reinforcing. The more you run the more it becomes a monster in your head.

I am reading Gen Z in a post-Covid world find face to face interactions more and more difficult. It really does feel like a massive shift in society we need to confront and overcome.
