"In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes." Judges 21:25

I do not believe it can be said often enough that we are each of us created as moral beings.

We have moral agency. We are called to make moral choices.

It is not merely that we have the power to say "No". When confronted with immorality, with authoritarianism and oppression in any of its many forms, we have a positive duty to say "No".

Our moral agency comes from God, not from the State.

Our Freedom therefore comes from God and not from the State. And we should not doubt that we are called by God to be Free as much as we are to be moral and holy.

We must always remember that, as President John F. Kennedy said so eloquently in his 1961 inaugural address, "the rights of man come not from the generosity of the State but from the hand of God." No State, no government, has a primary claim on our conscience or our Freedom. Those belong only to God.

Resisting tyranny is not merely right. Resisting tyranny is righteous.
